James Dondero, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), is the co-founder and president of Highland Capital Management (HCM) and the co-founder and president of NexBank. Highland Capital Management and NexBank are based in Dallas, Texas. Dondero also serves in other capacities. For one, he is the CEO and board chairman of HCM Acquisition Company. He is the board chairman and the president of NexPoint Hospitality Trust, Inc. too. Other roles include him serving as the chairman of Cornerstone Healthcare Group Holding, Inc., Cornerstone Healthcare Group, and CCS Medical Corporation.
James Dondero has more than 30 years of credit market experience. Before establishing HCM, he was the chief investment officer of the Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary where he assisted in growing the company from conception to a growth of more than $2 billion between 1989 and 1993. From 1985 to 1989, he worked for American Express as a Corporate Bond Analyst and later on as a Portfolio Manager where he was responsible for fixed-income funds worth approximately $1 billion. As far as his other previous board roles, he served as the Highland Financial Partners, L.P.’s chairman since February 2006. He was the director and chairman of Phy since January 2000. He also has earned impressive educational achievements. In 1984, he earned a BS with as a Beta Gamma Sigma from the Unversity of Virginia in Commerce, concentrating in Finance and Accounting. And with his certifications, he has the right to use the designation of the Chartered Financial Analyst.
